World Health Day 2025
This World Health Day, together with the NeoNet Africa team, we highlight a persistent but preventable cause of newborn deaths in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs): neonatal sepsis.
A newly published review in the Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal authored by NeoNet Africa researchers including Dr Larisse Bolton from SACEMA, highlights that neonatal sepsis contributes to up to 29% of neonatal deaths in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The team urge for improvements in diagnostics, antibiotic use, and treatment guidelines, particularly in the face of rising antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

To better understand the challenges clinicians face in diagnosing and treating neonatal sepsis, NeoNET AFRICA is conducting a short, anonymous survey for healthcare workers involved in neonatal care across Africa. The survey is available in English, French, and Portuguese and remains open until 10 May 2025.

The survey findings will support advocacy for improved clinical care and newborn outcomes.
Together, we can improve neonatal health systems and ensure healthier beginnings for every child.
