Mareli Claassens is a medical doctor and an epidemiologist with extensive research experience in infectious diseases that disproportionately affect poor people. She is fascinated by challenging questions that require a trans-disciplinary approach, and loves engaging with experts from other scientific domains to flesh out hypotheses, conceptual frameworks and potential solutions. She is also a strong believer in public engagement and tries to work closely with community members and other non-scientists.
